ABOUT US

Who We Are

For almost a decade we have helped a multitude of homeowners, real estate professionals, business owners, and property managers with an affordable solution: updating cabinetry in kitchens, bathrooms, studios, workshops, and living areas with custom painting. We’d love to help you, too!

Committed to providing excellent service, Shades of Change Cabinet Painting is locally operated, licensed, and insured. Owner Chris Bernhardt and son work to keep the lines of communication open with each client served. Courtesy and an attention to detail is what we strive for.

We aim to provide exceptional customer service and superior quality work at an affordable price. Kitchen or bathroom renovations can be some of the most expensive remodeling projects that a person may face.

Replacing cabinets can account for up to 40% of the budgeted costs when updating these areas. New cabinets for a ten to twelve square foot kitchen can cost thousands—and the new cabinets might turn out to be of lesser quality than the existing cabinets.

When painting cabinets, the prep work is the most vital step. After the prep work involved is completed, we use the proper primer along with either a Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams top coat. Projects take typically 9 to 12 days.

The first 2 to 3 days at your home is spent working on the frames and end panels. On the 4th day you will have a functional kitchen or bathroom while the doors are being completed. The doors and drawer faces are then prepped and painted at our shop and returned wrapped in protective foam wrap for reinstallation once fully dry. We recommend to each client that it’s important to allow the doors and drawer fronts to fully dry a few more days before attempting to install handles and knobs to avoid accidental dents or tool marks.

For starters, we employ the use of Rust-Oleum® Zinsser® B-I-N® Primer. As the original, shellac-base primer-sealer, nothing is better at permanently blocking stains, odors, and wood knots.

We really like to use products by Benjamin Moore ADVANCE® Interior Paint because it’s a full line of durable high-end finishes ideal for cabinetry, doors, and trim. It’s a premium waterborne alkyd paint.

We also like the smooth quality finish of Sherwin Williams Emerald® Urethane Trim Enamel for cabinets, doors, and trim. The water-based enamel resists yellowing, and the brand’s designer interior latex paints are also strong option.

Both the Benjamin Moore® and the Sherwin Williams® paints are ideal “self leveling” paints which have urethane for a harder and excellent smooth finish.

We accept payments via Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Personal Checks, Business Checks, Venmo, and Zelle.

We just need to know the number of drawer faces, how many decorative drawer faces, how many cabinet doors there are and their approximate size. Supplying us with a few snapshots of your existing cabinets is also requested.

We need to see if there are partitions above the cabinets to the ceiling, the size of any islands, crown moldings, and if there are any glass door cabinets.

We aim to work around each client’s schedule, so please let us know when the best times are for accessing your spaces to perform the work. We will ask that you remove all items that may be in the way of the work area.
